The Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman garden at Hidd, on the Shaikh Khalifa causeway will be opened to public on the National Day of 2011, according to a Muharraq Municipal Council official. The garden project, according to documents submitted by the company carrying out the project, Nass and the engineering firm MSCEB, will be handed over to the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning October. Although the garden will be handed over in October, the access road to the park, the planting of date palms along the acess road and in the park will be carried out by the Ministries of Work and the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs, said the document. Asked about the possible date of the opening of the project to the people – complete in all respects – Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, Abdulnasser Al Mahmeed told the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that the project would be opened to the people during the National Day. “Work is already in progress and once the park is handed over to the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, the remaining part of it will be expedited,” said the chairman. Situated on the Hidd side of Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman causeway, the garden is expected to be a major tourist attraction and one that will beckon many to the fishing port of Hidd – along the southern tip of the island of Muharraq. The park is also expected to help in the development of Hidd. The agency learns that this is perhaps the only garden where one can drive to the waterfront. It also has a boat jetty which can take passengers either on a boat ride or even to Arad on the other side. The park is expected to have many unique features, said the former municipal councillor representing Hidd, Sameer Khadim.
