Seventeen South Korean firms have made it in Fortune magazine's 2014 list of the top 500 global companies.
Samsung Electronics climbed a notch to 13th on the Global 500 rankings, which are based on sales figures, according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.
SK Holdings ranked 64th and Hyundai Motor was picked 100th.
Hanhwa Group, Samsung C and T and Lotte Shopping have newly joined the 500 list this year.
Wal-Mart Stores came out on top beating last year's number one Royal Dutch Shell.
The number of Chinese firms in the top 500 grew for the eleventh straight year from 89 last year to 95 this year.
