Crowds of coalminers have marched in western Romania, refusing to work for a fourth day because of low salaries and poor working conditions. The stoppage comes after negotiations with government officials broke down. Several thousand demonstrators want their state-owned employer to honor an agreement made in January, promising them a 10 per cent pay rise.
