Niniwa operations Command Najim al Jubouri said that 70 Daesh militants were killed in military operations against the terrorist organization in South Mosul city.
In press statements on Thursday, the Iraqi troops managed to kill many terrorists and destroyed seven booby-trapped cars.
On March 24, the Iraqi Defense Ministry announced the launch of a much-anticipated offensive aimed at retaking Mosul from the terrorist group.
Since then, the Iraqi army and Sunni forces have been scoring gains against the militant group with the help of Kurdish peshmerga forces.
Iraq has been dogged by rampant insecurity since mid-2014, when Daesh overran Mosul and declared a self-styled “caliphate” in parts of Iraq and Syria.
