Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Clean Energy and Desalinated Water Affairs at the Ministry of Energy, Fatima Al Foora Al Shamsi, today said that the UAE takes great interest in supporting international efforts towards countering environmental challenges.
In a statement on the occasion of the occasion of Earth Hour, a worldwide movement for the planet organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), she said the ministry is proud to be part of the event which provides a serious and positive opportunity to encourage individuals and communities to contribute towards reducing energy consumption and help in saving the environment.
The ministry is keen on promoting sustainability through promoting rationalised energy and water consumption and collective environmental responsibility as a culture in line with the UAE Vision 2021 and the National Agenda, Al Shamsi added.
Earth Hour is held worldwide annually to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour towards the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
