Ukraine's organic food output has grown by 90 percent in the recent five years, becoming one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy, Agriculture Minister Taras Kutovyi said here on Thursday.
"Organic production is developing at a rapid pace and we are striving to make this process more systematic and more visible inside the country and abroad," Kutovyi told reporters.
The development of the organic production has a great potential, Kutovyi said, pointing that only 400,000 hectares or about one percent of Ukraine's farmland are currently used for the "green farming".
Last year, the sales of organic food in Ukraine have increased by 17 percent to 21.4 million U.S. dollars.
About 300 certified farms, who are involved in organic agriculture in Ukraine, primarily produce vegetables, berries, herbs, fruits and livestock products.
