The Algerian and Mauritanian customs are to discuss the means to be set up, by both countries, for fighting against smuggling and the cross-border crime, said Monday the General Manager of Customs Mohamed Abdou Bouderbala.
On the sidelines of a meeting with his Mauritanian counterpart, on a visit to Algiers leading a delegation, Bouderbala focused on the fight against smuggling and the cross-border organized crime in the customs cooperation between the two counties, along the shared borders.
For the boss of the Algerian Customs, "the fight against smuggling is a capital part in the Algerian-Mauritanian customs cooperation because of common borders and an area of dangerous smuggling activities."
In this regard, the General Manager of the Mauritanian Customs, General Dah Ould Hamady Ould El Mamy declared that this three-day visit to Algiers, which follows that paid by Bouderbala to Mauritania in 2010, aims at "benefiting from Algeria’s customs experience in several segments of the fight against smuggling."
Bouderbala also noted that the visit of the Mauritanian customs delegation will allow assessing the legal framework for cooperation between the customs departments of the two countries in 1991.
It is also meant to develop "a more comprehensive framework of cooperation "in light of the evolution of the customs administration, adding that the cooperation also covers the exchange of information.
Moreover, providing training to the Mauritanian customs staff is one of the areas of the cooperation.
In this regard, the Mauritanian delegation will pay on Tuesday, a visit to the Oran-based National School of Customs as well as to the regional center of customs’ infrastructure and equipment.
