Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as solid domestic earnings reports lifted the market mood, which was underpinned by the Dow Jones Industrial Average's overnight advance setting a positive tone early on.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 248.76 points, or 1.14 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,147.75.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 18.96 points, or 1.16 percent, higher to finish at 1,659.35.
Pharmaceutical, insurance and wholesale trade-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
