Egypt's Suez Canal revenues hit $470.6 million in August, compared to $447.6 million dollars during the same period a year earlier, with a 5.1 percent increase, Suez Canal Authority chairman Mohab Mamish said in a Thursday statement.
The number of ships transiting the international waterway rose 4.5 percent year-on-year in August 2017, registering 1,528 ships carrying 91.5 million tons, up from 1,462 vessels that crossed it in the same month in 2016 with a total cargo of 87.8 million tons.
Mamish made it clear that this increase was due to the recovery of the world trade movement, which led to a surge in the number of vessels transiting the canal.
