The emirate of Fujairah has 3,706 farms with a total workforce of 5,605 people of different nationalities, according to a survey conducted by the emirate's Statistics Centre.
Findings showed that there are 479,698 date palm trees in addition to 191,827 vegetable and fruit trees.
The Fujairah Statistics Centre, FSC, said financial and technical assistance provided by H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, to farmers enabled the agricultural sector to grow and succeed in bringing in new varieties of trees.
''There are 2,262 farms for agricultural produce, 918 for mixed production and 72 for livestock,'' the figures indicated.
The FSC said the government of the emirate pays special attention to forestation and greenery as part of its sustainable environmental policy that seeks to preserve natural resources for the generations to come.
