Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi today visited Abu Dhabi’s Wahat Al Karama Memorial, built to commemorate the UAE martyrs and their sacrifices to defend the country and its achievements.
He was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director of the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince.
After reaching the site, President el-Sisi inspected the guard of honour and laid a wreath at the Martyr’s Memorial. He then toured the Memorial and also visited the Pavilion of Honour, where he was briefed about the Pavilion that has names of the UAE martyrs and Quranic verses engraved on its mural.
"I was honoured to visit the Memorial of our glorious martyrs from the UAE. I pray to Allah the Almighty to rest their souls in eternal peace, to bestow patience and solace on their families and to endow the UAE, its leadership and its people with safety, peace and security," President el-Sisi wrote in the monument’s register at the end of the visit.
Wahat Al Karama Memorial was built in line with President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision and directives to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives while performing their national duty of raising the UAE flag high.
The site covers an area of 46,000 sq. m., and is symbolically located between the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces.
Earlier today, President el-Sisi visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. He also went to the mausoleum of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, adjacent to the Mosque, read Surat Al Fatiha for the departed soul and recalled his qualities and wise approach of enriching the culture of tolerance and peaceful co-existence among different nations of the world.
He performed the Friday prayer at the mosque, along with the President of Mali and the Chairman of the Bosnian Council of Ministers.
