Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry attended on Friday the 41st annual ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 (G-77) and China that was held on the sidelines of 72nd session of UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry attended the activities of electing Egypt as the head of the Group of 77 and China for the 2018 term during the annual ministerial meeting of the group.
Shoukry also attended the adoption of the group's action plan for the coming year, the spokesman added.
The minister, in his speech during the meeting, praised Ecuador's efforts during its presidency of the group for the 2017 term, Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry said the global economy is going through a delicate phase in which it faces massive and unprecedented economic, social and environmental challenges, calling on the international community to combine its efforts to overcome these challenges, the spokesman said.
He also urged the international community to cooperate to combat terrorism, which threatens the stability and sustainable development of countries around the world, he added.
