Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry returned home on Saturday, wrapping up a six-day visit to Paris that was aimed at backing Egypt's candidate to UNESCO election Mushira Khattab.
UNESCO's Executive Board has chosen France's Audrey Azoulay as the UN agency's new chief.
Azoulay, a former French culture minister, narrowly beat Qatar's Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kawari in the final round 30-28 votes.
She earlier won a runoff vote against Khattab.
