Jordanian King Abdullah II Wednesday received a phone call from Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who put him up to date on a recently-signed Palestinian reconciliation accord, Petra News Agency reported.
The King congratulated Haniyeh on signing the reconciliation deal and reiterated Jordan's full support of "the Palestinian brethren in facing challenges", stressing the importance of "working hand-in-hand to defend our rights in Jerusalem and support the Palestinian issue".
"This is a priority for us in Jordan and should remain so for all Arab and Muslim countries in order to take a unified stance", he said.
Haniyeh spoke about "the difficult conditions the region is going through", adding that "Palestine is Palestine and Jordan is Jordan, and our security is one".
The Hamas leader commended the Jordanian King’s historic role in protecting the Al Aqsa Mosque and Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He said Hamas is serious about moving forward to unify Palestinian ranks "in a manner to fulfil the Palestinians' hopes and aspirations.
