Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva said the historic visit made by Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Lisbon in November opened prospects for boosting relations between Egypt and Portugal.
Silva affirmed that due to the strategic locations of both countries and their history of deep joint cooperation, they both have close viewpoints and situations about issues of mutual concern.
Silva described relations with Egypt as "excellent" and expressed appreciation for the Egyptian government for adopting the economic reforms in favor of the Egyptian people.
He also extended thanks to Egypt for its efforts to achieve security in the region, stressing that both countries are capable of unifying efforts to counter terrorism.
He noted that Portugal is among EU member countries that are keen on boosting the EU relations with Cairo as Egypt is an essential partner for the EU and Portugal.
