The Media Syndicate's chief Hamdy el Konaissi said on Saturday that the trade union is entitled to penalize breaching media men following probes as part of its role to "control the media scene".
"The Media Regulatory Council refers violating media men to the syndicate for investigation," the veteran media figure told a conference on a media code of conduct.
Such penalties are taken by the constituent panel of the syndicate upon a government decision, he further noted.
The planned code of conduct is meant to set a better media stage, said Mona el Hadidi, who chairs a panel in charge of drawing out the code.
"It's also aimed protecting those who work in the media domain," she argued.
