Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit met Tuesday with Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq Jan Kubis on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN general assembly meetings in New York.
Spokesman for AL Secretary-General Mohamoud Afify said the meeting dealt with the latest developments in Iraq, as Kubis briefed Abul Gheit on the most important results of his contacts with Iraqi parties in this regard in recent period.
Kubis explained that his efforts comes within the framework of supporting the security and stability of Iraq, as well as standing by the Iraqi people in facing threats and challenges, especially the threat of terrorist Daesh group.
He also underlined his efforts to support Iraqi state institutions, adding that he made contacts over the Kurdish referendum in September 25.
Afify pointed out that Abul Gheit stressed the need for the international community to prioritize the preservation of Iraq's unity, sovereignty, security and stability in light of the many sacrifices and sufferings of the Iraqi people over the past years.
Aboul Gheit explained that keeping Iraq's security intact reflects on the security of the entire region.
He called on all Iraqi, regional and international parties to take into account all the interests of various groups and communities in Iraq without any discrimination.
