Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Said bin Mohammed Al-Faihani, received here today the Deputy Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the region, Alexis Konstantopoulos, as part of the NIHR;s cooperation with human rights-related international organizations.
Al-Faihani commended the strenuous efforts exerted by the EU Delegation to follow up on human rights issues in the Arab region.
He reviewed the human rights situation in the kingdom, and the role of the NIHR in dealing with it, as well as in communicating with the competent sides to be informed about the facts and circumstances.
Alexis Konstantopoulos highlighted the NIHR’s statement on the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Human Rights and Democracy Report – 2016 about the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He expressed admiration for the effective role played by the NIHR in following up on the issues of prisoners and detainees through attending their trial sessions, and studying the complaints submitted by them, in addition to its announced and unannounced visits to reformation and detention centres to monitor the human rights situation there.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between them, and stressed the importance of continuous meetings to achieve the common goals.
Complaints, Monitoring and Follow up Committee Head, Ms. Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi, and member, Rawdha Al-Aradi, as well as legal researcher at the Department of Legal Affairs, Shaikha Al-Alaiwi, were present.
