Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit underlined the importance of preserving the unity of Spain after the Catalan independence referendum that was held lately.
Abul Gheit believes that the future of any state should be determined in line with its Constitution and not by violating it like what happened in Catalonia or Iraq's Kurdistan region, the Arab League chief's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a statement released by the pan-Arab body.
The best outlet to such crises is to abide by the Constitution, he added.
Catalonia, the wealthy north-eastern region of Spain, held a referendum to seek independence from Spain. Final results showed that 90% of the 2.3 million people who voted backed independence.
