The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, is participating in an International Peace Conference, hosted by France, in order to discuss how to revive the Israeli-Palestinian settlement path.
Mahmoud Afifi, spokesman of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, said that the participation of the Secretary-General comes within the framework of his strong and serious commitment to reach a comprehensive and just settlement to the Palestinian issue, as it is the central issue of the Arab nation, and the importance of working to secure the legitimate rights of the Palestinians, especially the right to establish the State of Palestine based on the 4th June 1967 borders, and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The spokesman pointed out that the Secretary-General is keen to emphasise the core of the Arab peace initiative to reach a settlement of the Palestinian issue, as well as the Arab-Israeli conflict in general, and emphasise the importance of an international effort to push Israel to comply with international legitimacy regarding the issue, putting a stop to any actions that might disrupt the political course of the settlement
