India voiced support to Egypt’s candidate for the post of Director-General of UNESCO, ambassador Mushira Khattab, foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Sunday.
This came in a phone call Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received from Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, the spokesman added.
Shoukry expressed Cairo’s support to India’s candidate for a post at the International Court of Justice, according to the spokesman.
During the call, the two top diplomats discussed boosting the bilateral ties, in addition to coordinating the two countries’ stances in the international events.
Abu Zied said Shoukry and Swaraj also touched on the preparations for the joint Cairo-New Delhi committee, due to be convened in October or November in New Delhi on the level of foreign ministers.
Shoukry stressed Egypt’s interest in developing the ties with India in various fields, which were reflected in the coming visits by senior officials, topped by Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb and Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi.
