Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday confirmed "invariable support for friendly Iraq’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity," TASS news agency reported.
He met with his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, in Moscow to discuss the situation in Iraq and the fight against Daesh.
Only Iraqis themselves should decide internal issues, Lavrov said.
Iraqi Kurds are expected to vote on Monday in an independence referendum that neighboring countries and Western powers fear could stir broader regional ethnic and sectarian conflict.
