The Cabinet approved Wednesday paying compensations to people who were harmed from Embaba market fire which erupted Friday, Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali said.
Wali said affected people were fruit merchants, adding that the blaze damaged eight apartments and 26 stalls.
Owners of the affected flats will receive EGP 25,000 in compensations while owners of commercial shops and kiosks will receive compensations ranging between EGP 5000 to 15,000, she added.
Initial reports suggested fire losses of around EGP 10 million.
According to preliminary reports, the fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the shops.
Meanwhile, the minister said injured people in Minya terror attack received their compensations on Tuesday.
