Culture Minister Helmy el Namnam has warned that terrorism in Egypt targets the unity and stability of the homeland.
Terrorism has no limits and has nothing to do with Islam as some claim, Namnam said during the inauguration of a conference held by the Supreme Council of Culture on Monday under the theme "Egypt's Future..Inclusive Fight of Terrorism Phenomenon And Role of Egyptian State Institutions."
Terrorism is an ancient phenomenon and it is not alien to both Arab and foreign societies, he said, citing the assassination of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib and Khalifa Uthman ibn Affan who were assassinated in terror acts.
The terrorism phenomenon continues to last until now, according to the Egyptian official.
Namnam said terrorist operations do not distinguish between one and another, adding terrorists assassinated Sheikh Mohamed Hussein el Dhahabi and writer Farag Fouda.
Some believe terrorist operations and assassinations in the country are committed because of personal positions and will end, he said. But what is taking place every day in Egypt and the world proves that Egypt is facing an international complex phenomenon with different motives, he added.
The culture minister said the conference will convene annually, voicing hope it will come up with positive outcomes to that effect.
