His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today issued Decree 47/2017 on amending Decree 54/2007 on establishing the Urban Planning and Development Authority, and Decree 68/2012 on re-structuring the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
The decree stipulates the establishment of an “Urban Planning and Development Authority” (UPDA) to be under the supervision of the minister in charge of urban planning.
UPDA will have a chief executive officer (CEO) and a deputy CEO, to be named by the minister in charge and appointed as per a royal decree.
The Prime Minister, and ministers –each in their capacity- shall implement the decree which take immediate effect.
HM the King also issued Decree 48/2017 on organising the Urban Planning and Development Authority.
According to the decree, the authority will be headed by a chief executive officer with the rank of undersecretary, who will be in charge of the Human and Financial Resources Directorate and the Studies and Strategic Planning Directorate.
Meanwhile, the Detailed Planning Directorate, the Land Development and Projects Directorate and Investment Directorate will report to a deputy CEO with the rank of assistant undersecretary.
HM King Hamad also issued Decree 49/2017, appointing Shaikh Nayef bin Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa as Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Planning and Development Authority with the rank of undersecretary.
The decree also stipulates the appointment of Rashid Salah Rashid Al-Sa’ad as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Planning and Development Authority with the rank of assistant undersecretary.
The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister shall implement the decree which takes immediate effect.
