Five policemen were killed and six others wounded in fierce clashes with Taliban militants in the southern province of Baghlan, an Afghan official announced Tuesday.
The police repelled the Taliban attack in Baghlan's Jaded district on Tuesday but the fighting was intense and is still underway in some areas, ABC news quoted police official Amir Gul Hussainkhil as saying.
Provincial council chief Asadullah Shabaz said that the road between Baghlan and the neighboring Kunduz province is still closed because of the fighting.
Shabaz pointed out that schools as well as local markets were closed and several houses have been damaged while hundreds of residents have been relocated.
