Sudanese President Omar al Bashir asserted on Thursday that his country does strenuous efforts to eradicate terrorism and extremism, calling for rallying international efforts to combat this evil phenomenon.
Delivering a speech at the opening session of the 14th conference of the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA), which was held in Khartoum, Bashir said that Sudan seeks to achieve peace in South Sudan within the framework of a collective action plan, that is based on the initiative of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Sudan has provided humanitarian aid and sent relief convoys to the South Sudanese people, in addition to hosting hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese citizens who fled war, Bashir added.
The CISSA represents a pillar of security and stability for Africa, its head said, asserting that terrorism poses a challenge to Africa, especially in light of attempts by terror groups to penetrate into borders through exploiting gaps and taking advantage of weakness along African states’ borders.
