A top opposition leader was convicted along with two others by Bahrain's Supreme Appeals court on Sunday for collaborating and sharing information with Qatar.
Sheikh Ali Salman, the leader of the opposition Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, was imprisoned for life along with other two members of the society.
The prosecutors said in a statement that the three individuals received life imprisonment due to the seriousness of their crimes, including "sharing sensitive security information with the government of Qatar, and collaborating with Qatari officials to support acts of violence throughout Bahrain."
It also said the court's ruling took into consideration the evidence against the defendants that included intercepted telephone conversations and proof of illicit funds flow into the defendants' bank accounts by the Qatari government.
He added the evidence also indicated direct involvement of senior members of Qatar's government, including Qatar's then prime minister and other officials.
