Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar has welcomed members of Bahrain’s KHK Mixed Martial Arts team after their unprecedented achievement at the Asian Open Championship for Amateur Mixed Martial Arts.
The recently-concluded international event, organised by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) in Republic of Singapore from June 12 to 16, saw Bahrain clinch one gold and three bronze medals.
In an official statement, Askar congratulated the team on this achievement in this first edition of the Asian Open Championships for Amateur MMA, expressing his pride and gratitude at the outstanding result, as the participation in the global event featured more than 62 fighters from 15 countries.
Askar noted that the results reflect the developed level of the Kingdom of Bahrain, thanks to the wise Bahraini sports leadership, which led to various honorable achievements in record time.
On his part, BOC board member and Bahrain Table Tennis Association president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa said she is proud of this outstanding unprecedented outcome for the team in this major international mixed martial arts event.
She attributed this achievement to the continued support of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President to sport in Bahrain.
BOC board member and Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) president Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayyat expressed pride for the remarkable efforts of the team members and stressed that he will continue to develop this sport to accomplish more achievements in upcoming championships, including IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA, to be hosted by Bahrain in November.
BMMAF general secretary Waleed Sayyar, BMMAF board member Fawaz Shamsan, BOC sports federation director Hisham Al Balooshi and BOC media and public relations director Mohammed Lori, also welcomed the team on return.
