An intense heat wave pushed power demand to 3,150 megawatts; the highest for this summer. Officials expect power demand to hit an all-time high by mid-week as the Kingdom continues to swelter in a searing heat wave that sent mercury levels above 40 degrees Celsius.
The summer of 2016 saw power load reaching an all-time high of 3,165 megawatts but that was during August when temperature usually hits seasonal peak. Amin al-Zughol, director of operation and planning at the National Electric Power company told Petra that the Kingdom’s total generation output is 4,000 megawatts.
